Our Children Choose Us
Having birthday girl Tanya ask you to write a post for her website is a little like a wannabe Idol being asked to perform in front of Madge, the Queen of Pop. It's daunting and I wasn't sure if anything I had to say would be of real interest.
But lo' and behold, you can find my story Our Children Choose Us on Rattle and Mum.
Don't be fooled by the wonderful intro. It is indeed me

Me! A Guest Blogger!
If you haven't yet, please check out Tanya's website rattle and mum. There's something for everyone and I can guarantee you won't be disappointed.
A few days ago (or was it weeks?) Tanya asked if I'd write a piece for her guest blogger feature and I literally jumped at the opportunity.
Well, it's been written and sent so hopefully it'll be up soon...I'll be sure to let you know

Gone but never ever forgotten
In December we spent Christmas in Knysna, with Mark's mom Dawn, his step dad Paul and KC, their beloved Labrador. At 13 she was getting old and time was nipping at her heels (like the nuisance Chihuahua down the road) and we all knew the time would come when she would no longer be around.
On Saturday afternoon, after another stroke, Mark's mom and step dad had finally made the very difficult decision to have KC put down. We got an sms to let us know that she was now at peace.
Our hearts broke. Even though we were expecting it, it seemed too soon, not real. Loyal by nature and a friend to the end, I think she hung on for as long as she possibly could.
KC had an incredible life filled with travel, comfort and every squeaky toy you could imagine. She was a gentle soul with a playful spirit and was loved by everyone who knew her. Kids would stop to say hi, or pop past the house to ask if they could walk her.
We were lucky enough to spend one last Christmas with KC and as always Father Christmas left her a few gifts around the tree. She would wait patiently for someone to pass her her pressie and carefully open it with her teeth, with her tail wagging and eyes sparkling...
KC was not just a pet. She was an important member of the family and she will be sorely missed. Our hearts are broken for Paul and Dawn and we can only imagine the sadness and huge sense of loss they feel. KC was their life and they loved her beyond measure.
We'll hang onto the memories of the walks in the park, runs on the beach, playing hide and bark with all her toys and Emma kissing and hugging her. Go well KC. You're in our hearts forever. Never to be forgotten

GOD'S GARDEN
God looked around his garden and found an empty place.
He then looked down upon the earth and saw your tired face.
He put his arms around you and lifted you to rest.
God's garden must be beautiful, he always takes the best.
He knew that you were suffering, he knew you were in pain.
He knew that you would never get well on this earth again.
He saw the road was getting rough and the hills were hard to climb.
So he closed your weary eyelids and whispered "Peace be thine".
It broke our hearts to lose you but you didn't go alone.
For part of us went with you, the day God called you home.
He then looked down upon the earth and saw your tired face.
He put his arms around you and lifted you to rest.
God's garden must be beautiful, he always takes the best.

Menoblogs
I recently found out (to my absolute horror) that I have one or two men reading my blog. Crikey, I thought, my blog is tainted with TMI about 'women' things. I guess I'm going to have to stop (or at least limit) discussions about fanny farts, genital warts and how one can reuse tampons...
In honour of the men out there, brave enough to read mommy blogs, I've highlighted a few of my favourite bloggers of those people who have "cookies with a handle" (courtesy of kambabe).
PS - couldn't find too many locally lekker ones. Pass on their details if you know of any
Dad Or Alive is hilarious! As a former television exec for both Adam Sandler & Chelsea Handler, Dad Or Alive is the confessions and misadventures of a first-time, unexpected, stay-at-home dad. Funny, disgusting and sometimes sentimental
I love Daddy Knows Less. It's not often that a man admits to knowing less than his female counterpart. When a man admits it in cyberspace I say R.E.S.P.E.C.T. The blog is a floundering yet flourishing father's take on the perils and pearls of parenthood.
Editor of destiny man, man, father, husband, poet, writer, content producer, media consultant, dreamer, this a website for those of you who enjoy a man with intellect and good looks. Visit Kojo Baffoe's website.
What happens at the dinner table stays at the dinner table...NOT! Dinner with Daddy is a hoot. He refers to his kids as Mini Buns, Sticky Buns and Cheddar Buns
Always Home and Uncool is about an at-home dad to two kids, househusband to an executive goddess, master to a poop-spewing pup, freelance writer to fewer and fewer, and a goofball to all. Order subject to change
Always Jacked just types what the boys tell him...
I Have To Wipe Their What? Need I say more?
Bringing Up Charlie is about a dad in a mum's world. Bringing up Charlie charts the progress of stay-at-home dad Tim Atkinson as his wife returns to work, leaving him holding the baby and changing the diapers
Are We Still Cool follows the slightly neurotic character of Cool Dad, who wonders if he's still cool after becoming a parent. Almost three years into the blog, the jury's still out on that one.
