I hate New Year's Eve and I hate New Year's Day. There's the nothing new about it. It's the same old day really.
Every year I think it's going to be a better one, a brighter one, a happier one. But it's not. There's the same frustrations, irritations and bugbears. the only good thing about the previous year is I know I survived it. Hell knows what's going to happen in the new one. And I hate surprises.
A new year means I'm one year older. A year more dieable. One year closer yo becoming worm fodder. There's a chance of losing parents and friends. Invites to weddings and parties get fewer while attending funerals is a little more regular.
I'm a 'glass is half empty' kinda girl but I can accept that as much as there were lows and lowers in 2012, there were also huge blessings.
I have an amazing little family that brings me great joy. I have a family I can depend on and a car I can depend on more. I have work and a roof over my head. And friends that I'm blessed to know.
So with a wave goodbye to the old year and a cautious hello to 2013, I am aware of the lessons I have learnt and take with me
Lose yourself in a good book
Lose yourself in someone you love but never lose yourself for someone
Life's too short to sit through a bad movie
Be kind to others but be kinder to yourself
Don't bite your tongue. It hurts
Smell a newborn baby
Good manners will get you far. A reliable car will get you further
Forget you have whatsapp, email, twitter and Facebook every now and then and call a friend, write a letter, send a card
High five great moments. Give a thumbs up to good ones and freely use the middle finger for those crap ones
A rotten tomato never ruined an entire salad
Your looks will fade but a good foundation will help you out
Save your blog posts. I've retyped this one five times
Hang your hang ups up
You can't please everyone all the time but those who matter won't mind
Believe in fairies. A million kids can't be wrong
Believe in yourself. You can't be wrong
So here's to your 2013! My wish for you is that it's all you hope for.
Love those dear to you, hold those you love close and let those that are near and dear to you know you love them.

Beautiful! May ours be great too. And lifes too short to read a not so great book too
